About the practice
Meet Erika Joy Puruleski, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC
Board-certified psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner and founder of Joy Integrative Psychiatry, providing telehealth psychiatric care to children, adolescents and adults throughout Arizona.

Experienced in healthcare. Focused on the whole person.
- MSN
- APRN
- PMHNP-BC
- Registered Nurse background
Erika's path to psychiatric practice began in nursing. Over roughly 15 years in healthcare and nursing practice, she cared for patients and families through illness, recovery and stressful transitions. Along the way she saw again and again how closely mental health, physical health, sleep and daily life are connected.
That experience led her to advanced practice. Erika earned her Master of Science in Nursing and is board-certified as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), a certification that covers psychiatric care across the lifespan, from children through older adults. As an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in Arizona, she evaluates, diagnoses and treats mental health conditions and prescribes and manages psychiatric medications.
She founded Joy Integrative Psychiatry (the practice carries her middle name) to offer psychiatric care that feels personal: one consistent clinician, time to be heard, and a plan that looks beyond the diagnosis.
Approach
What integrative psychiatry means here
“Integrative” can mean many things. At Joy Integrative Psychiatry it means evidence-based psychiatric care that pays attention to everything that affects mental health, not a rejection of medication or a promise of alternative cures.
- Evidence first. Recommendations are grounded in current clinical guidelines and research.
- Whole-person assessment. Sleep, stress, attention, mood, physical health, medications and lifestyle are all part of the evaluation.
- Thoughtful prescribing. When medication is appropriate, it's chosen carefully, started at a sensible dose and reviewed regularly.
- Shared decisions. You understand the options, benefits, risks and alternatives, and you help decide.
- Collaboration. With your consent, Erika coordinates with therapists, pediatricians and primary care clinicians.
What to expect
Working together
Your first visit is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. You'll talk through what brings you in, your history, your health and what you hope will change. For children and teens, parents or guardians are part of the conversation, and teens also have time to speak privately.
Follow-up visits focus on how things are going: what's improving, any side effects, and whether the plan needs to change. Between visits, you can reach the practice through the secure patient portal.
Joy Integrative Psychiatry provides psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Many patients do best with therapy as well, and Erika is glad to work alongside your therapist or help you find one.
